FG+M successfully integrated new additions to the National Register and locally designated properties, transforming the historic Ft. Homer W. Hesterly Armory into the Bryan Glazer Family Jewish Community Center. Originally established in 1941 as a center for cultural and civic activity, the Armory now serves as the South Tampa campus of the Jewish Community Center, continuing its role as a community cornerstone.
FleischmanGarciaMaslowski (FG+M) Architecture preserved the building’s historical significance while addressing modern needs. The design includes a new grand entry and spaces dedicated to wellness, recreation, education, and culture. Features such as the events center, aquatics center, childcare facility, and meeting spaces create a hub of activity and connection.
The design adheres to the Secretary of Interior Standards for historic preservation, ensuring the Armory’s legacy endures while meeting the evolving needs of the community. The Bryan Glazer Family Jewish Community Center is now a gathering place for people of all faiths and backgrounds, fostering inclusivity and connection.
