FleischmanGarciaMaslowski (FG+M) Architecture designed a new school building to accommodate 513 student stations with core facilities for 596 Palma Sola Elementary School students. The new layout prioritizes safety, flexibility, and sustainability. The shape of the school is informed by the existing mature trees, which maximize students’ view of nature and create a larger courtyard. The new courtyard becomes the setting for neighborhood events, connecting the school to the rest of the community.
Our approach emphasizes preserving the neighborhood ambiance, maximizing daylighting while minimizing glare, and celebrating a new ‘front door’ for the school. We adhere to Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) guidelines to ensure a safe environment. Additionally, we are integrating LEED principles for energy efficiency and student well-being. Our design also includes specialized spaces for ESE (Exceptional Student Education) programs, art, music, media center, resource rooms, and physical education, catering to diverse learning needs and activities, and facilities for 596 student stations.
