FleischmanGarciaMaslowski (FG+M) Architecture designed this 19,375 sq. ft. K-5 Elementary School just north of Miracle Place, within the Tampa Heights Historic District.
The design matches the surrounding historic neighborhood and the Metropolitan Ministries campus. It includes an iconic tower structure, large classroom windows on the north façade, and an arched entry feature facing Florida Avenue. A U-shaped plan was conceived to provide a shaded and secured courtyard around a large oak tree, with a brick arched covered walkway around its perimeter. All eight classrooms, the Media Center, and the Admin Reception open directly into this courtyard.
The school’s design prioritizes outdoor learning and play. To the north, the first-floor classrooms have quick access to a small playground, encouraging physical activity and exploration. To the south, the Multi-Purpose/Dining Room opens to an outdoor area under a shaded grand oak tree, providing a serene and natural setting for meals and gatherings. The Music/Art Studio and the vibrant interior colors in the halls, classrooms, and Media Center create a stimulating environment that enhances the educational experience for the children, faculty, and visitors.
After school, volunteers from Metropolitan Ministries utilize the facilities, a testament to their dedication to enhancing the educational experience of the Metropolitan Ministries families. This collaboration not only enriches the families’ lives but also fosters a sense of shared responsibility and support within our community.
