FleischmanGarciaMaslowski (FG+M) Architecture has reimagined The Stage’s design, leveraging the existing auditorium’s architectural elements to shape the latest entry and addition, ensuring a seamless transition. The design incorporates the existing auditorium’s distinctive features, such as roof overhangs, pitched roof, and the rhythm of exposed columns on the exterior.

The Foyer is a key element in bridging the existing and the addition, offering a transition point where the park beyond becomes an integral part of the overall experience. To warmly welcome patrons, the roof overhangs extend the rhythm of existing columns in front of the lobby.

A versatile perforated metal curtain unifies the existing and addition, providing the auditorium with its second act.

Embracing the Sarasota School of Architecture principles, the redesign introduces sharp-edged geometric forms, roof overhangs, and a large transparent façade. These elements establish a robust indoor-outdoor connection, bringing the Sarasota climate into the Foyer through abundant light and a connection to nature. The perforated metal curtain adds a pop of color. It is a multi-functional architectural statement, as a shading screen for exterior glazing and a visual screen for rooftop mechanical units. Inspired by local designs from Victor Lundy, the perforated metal curtain’s dramatic curved shape adds creativity to the overall aesthetic.
