FleischmanGarciaMaslowski (FG+M) Architecture is designing the new public library, which is planned to replace the existing Thonotosassa Library on the northern portion of county-owned property. The site is north of the current Thonotosassa Park and Recreational Center and south of Main Street, Thonotosassa. Envisioned as an approximately 18,000 sq. ft. single-story building, expandable to 25,000 sq. ft., the new library will offer ample parking. The architectural design follows a Prairie style, characterized by strong horizontal lines, wide overhanging eaves, cantilevering massing, and integration with the natural environment.
In addition to the library, the project includes planning for a future 5,000-7,000 sq. ft. Park Recreational Center and park amenities. The design adheres to CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) Guidelines, emphasizing Natural Surveillance, Natural Access Control, and Territorial Reinforcement Management.
The library interior will feature various spaces, including a reading room, a children’s room with toilets, a Makerspace, a Large meeting room, a Medium meeting room, two small meeting rooms, a data communication room, Friends of the Library + storage, vending café with vending machine room, workroom with toilet, office, storage, breakroom, Large multi-purpose community room, editing room, studio, control room, two mechanical rooms, electrical room, restrooms with a family restroom, D.A.S room, janitor closet, and various storage areas.
