This 19,476 sq. ft., two-story, freestanding building, located south of Bruton-Greer Hall, serves as both a teaching courtroom and a potential venue for civil court cases and district court of appeal hearings. Designed by FleischmanGarciaMaslowski (FG+M) Architecture, it stands as a prominent fixture on the northwest corner of campus. Highlighted by a striking two-story lobby with glass and wood paneling, it serves not only as a gathering space but also as a venue for events such as cocktail receptions, making it a landmark in the community.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the facility showcases the cutting-edge innovations seen in modern courtrooms. Each of the seven appointed moderators can privately view evidence via an advanced audio-video system, select specific perspectives, and control when and how it’s shared. With strategically placed video displays, the house has no bad seats. The room features multiple robotic cameras and an integrated audio system, allowing proceedings to be recorded, displayed, and stored for later review. The modular system controls can be operated remotely through the local area network.
As a dual-purpose facility, the courtroom also functions as a classroom, giving students hands-on experience in a realistic courtroom setting. Future expansions include faculty offices and an additional student courtroom on the second floor.
This project proudly achieved LEED Gold certification, reflecting its sustainability and energy efficiency commitment.
