Honoring 26 Years of Dedication: Ken Zuker.

Ken Zuker’s journey began in Beal City, Michigan, a small Midwestern town where his graduating class numbered just 48 students. From those close-knit beginnings, Ken headed to Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan, before making his way to Tampa, Florida, arriving on October 21, 1981. Shortly after, an interview with Fleischman Garcia marked the start of what would become a remarkable 26-year career with the firm, defined by dedication, craftsmanship, and an unmistakably positive spirit. Along the way, Ken earned a reputation among coworkers as being simply “Unusually Happy.”

Ken often reflects with gratitude on the path that brought him here. He is grateful for the experiences and, most importantly, the people who helped shape his journey. In his own words, he is “grateful for the experiences and people that got me where I am today,” and he offers a special note of appreciation to Sol and Eddy: “Thank you for letting me become the person I was meant to be.” Ken is proud of where he came from, how far he has come, and thankful for every person and experience along the way.

The projects Ken holds closest say a lot about who he is. Libraries and schools stand out, especially the Riverview Public Library. Ken loves that libraries truly belong to the community. They are no longer just quiet places to find a book, but vibrant hubs that bring people together, where families and children learn, grow, and connect. Riverview captured his heart with its Old Florida style and the work of three artists who wove a playful, philosophical theme throughout the space.

Another unforgettable project was the historic renovation of Tampa Heights Elementary School. Following a devastating fire caused by a hurricane, the school underwent a careful historical renovation. Ken remembers standing in awe as the original structure was demolished and then rebuilt, quite literally brick by brick. For him, schools are our living history. Countless students pass through their doors, halls, classrooms, and playgrounds, each leaving to become who they are meant to be.

After 26 years at Fleischman Garcia, Ken leaves behind more than completed projects. He leaves a legacy of gratitude, community, and genuine joy. Much like the spaces he helped create, his career has been about bringing people together and building places where others can grow into who they are meant to be.
